Kelly Sports

This term we have been lucky enough to have Coach Cameron from Kelly Sports come and work on fundamental ball skills with the children.  They have learnt about throwing, catching, dribbling and striking.  The sessions were filled with skills teaching as well as lots of fun games that all the tamariki thoroughly enjoyed.
The only problem we did have was taking photos that showed the whole face; everyone was far too busy concentrating on what they were doing!

My Amazing Maze

This morning Kairo came and got me excitedly.  "Come and look at this" he announced.  I turned around and saw this wonderful creation.  "Wow" I said, "what a cool city".  Kairo laughed and said "it's not a city - it's a maze" and asn I looked more closely I could see it was exactly that.  Kairo had carefully placed each block to make a pathway that lined up.  He had made "tricks" that ended in pathways that were blocked off and used matchbox cars to test the pathway.  Kairo shows a real interest in buildings and structures and has an obvious knack for it.
When children participate in activities like this they are using the key competency "thinking".  There is a lot of thinking that is involved when planning out the space, negotiating length and testing theories about position.
Ka pai Kairo - I can't wait to see what you create next!

Wonderful Writing

WALT:  make sure our words match our picture.

We love Story Writing time in Room 27.  We talk about what we will write about and then we go and draw our picture.  We have to make sure the story we write matches the picture we have drawn.

How do you think I did?

Stylish Shoes

WALT:  create an observational drawing of an object while thinking about size, shape and position.

This term in Art we sketched a shoe.  Nga tamariki had to look carefully at the shoe and then draw what they could see.  We discussed the different shapes and where we should put them.  It was sometimes tricky deciding how big they should be.

Once the shoe had been sketched we then drew over the lines using a black vivid and coloured it in using special water colour pastels.
